Des travaux sont en cours pour \u00e9valuer sa quantit\u00e9 et sa vitesse de r\u00e9g\u00e9n\u00e9ration, mais il pourrait transformer le monde de l\u2019\u00e9nergie<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pendant longtemps, il a \u00e9t\u00e9 ignor\u00e9, confondu avec d\u2019autres gaz ou consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme trop rare pour avoir de l\u2019importance. Aujourd\u2019hui, cependant, l\u2019hydrog\u00e8ne blanc suscite un int\u00e9r\u00eat mondial croissant. Comme le p\u00e9trole, il ne se produit pas : il se d\u00e9couvre. Il est d\u00e9j\u00e0 pr\u00e9sent dans le sous-sol et pourrait devenir l\u2019une des ressources les plus propres et accessibles de la transition \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Contrairement \u00e0 l\u2019hydrog\u00e8ne vert, bleu ou gris, l\u2019hydrog\u00e8ne blanc ne provient pas de proc\u00e9d\u00e9s industriels mais de <strong>r\u00e9actions naturelles<\/strong> qui se produisent dans les profondeurs de la Terre. La principale est la <strong>serpentinisation<\/strong>, lorsque l\u2019eau p\u00e9n\u00e8tre dans des roches du manteau riches en fer et en magn\u00e9sium : le fer \u201ccapte\u201d l\u2019oxyg\u00e8ne de l\u2019eau et lib\u00e8re de l\u2019hydrog\u00e8ne. La radioactivit\u00e9 naturelle, les mouvements de failles ou l\u2019activit\u00e9 microbienne souterraine peuvent \u00e9galement y contribuer.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Le r\u00e9sultat est un gaz qui <strong>se r\u00e9g\u00e9n\u00e8re en continu<\/strong> (bien que son rythme reste encore inconnu), ce qui en fait une ressource potentiellement renouvelable. Non pas un fossile du pass\u00e9, mais une \u00e9nergie vivante.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Le ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne n\u2019est pas nouveau. D\u00e8s 1888, Dmitri Mendele\u00efev, p\u00e8re du tableau p\u00e9riodique, avait identifi\u00e9 de l\u2019hydrog\u00e8ne dans un gisement ukrainien. Mais ce n\u2019est que r\u00e9cemment que son importance a \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9\u00e9valu\u00e9e. Le tournant a eu lieu en 2018, lorsque dans le village de Bourak\u00e9bougou au Mali, un puits destin\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019eau s\u2019est mis \u00e0 br\u00fbler spontan\u00e9ment : il s\u2019agissait d\u2019hydrog\u00e8ne pur. Depuis, l\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat scientifique et industriel a explos\u00e9.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ces derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es, plusieurs gouvernements et grandes entreprises \u00e9nerg\u00e9tiques consid\u00e8rent l\u2019hydrog\u00e8ne blanc comme un levier strat\u00e9gique de d\u00e9carbonation. Non pas parce qu\u2019il est d\u00e9j\u00e0 pr\u00eat \u00e0 remplacer le p\u00e9trole et le gaz, mais parce que son co\u00fbt potentiel\u2014et la possibilit\u00e9 de r\u00e9g\u00e9n\u00e9ration naturelle\u2014ouvre des perspectives autrefois jug\u00e9es impossibles. Ce changement de regard explique son entr\u00e9e dans les agendas politiques et industriels mondiaux.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Aujourd\u2019hui, plus de <strong>40 entreprises<\/strong> dans le monde explorent des gisements d\u2019hydrog\u00e8ne naturel, avec des recherches en Australie, au Canada, en France, en Espagne, aux \u00c9tats-Unis et m\u00eame en Italie, o\u00f9 le projet NHEAT, coordonn\u00e9 par le CNR, l\u2019Universit\u00e9 La Sapienza et l\u2019INGV, vise \u00e0 cartographier les zones potentiellement riches en ce gaz.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les cartes g\u00e9ologiques et les analyses chimiques sugg\u00e8rent que la Suisse\u2014et plus largement la r\u00e9gion alpine\u2014pourrait \u00e9galement abriter des r\u00e9serves naturelles d\u2019hydrog\u00e8ne. La formation des Alpes, due \u00e0 la collision des plaques tectoniques, a fait remonter \u00e0 la surface des roches du manteau riches en fer, capables de g\u00e9n\u00e9rer de l\u2019hydrog\u00e8ne par r\u00e9actions g\u00e9ochimiques. Les premi\u00e8res \u00e9tudes dans les Grisons et en Valais montrent des signes encourageants : des zones de production active pourraient exister en profondeur, de v\u00e9ritables \u201ccuisines \u00e0 hydrog\u00e8ne\u201d.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Malgr\u00e9 ce potentiel, l\u2019id\u00e9e d\u2019une Suisse transform\u00e9e en nouveau \u201cparadis de l\u2019hydrog\u00e8ne\u201d reste lointaine. \u00c0 l\u2019\u00e9chelle mondiale, il n\u2019a pas encore \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9montr\u00e9 que l\u2019exploitation de l\u2019hydrog\u00e8ne naturel soit \u00e9conomiquement viable, \u00e0 l\u2019exception partielle des puits g\u00e9othermiques en Islande. Le cadre r\u00e9glementaire constitue \u00e9galement un obstacle : la l\u00e9gislation mini\u00e8re devrait \u00eatre mise \u00e0 jour, comme cela a r\u00e9cemment \u00e9t\u00e9 fait en France, les cantons ayant actuellement la comp\u00e9tence pour les autorisations d\u2019exploration. Dans le sc\u00e9nario le plus optimiste, les premiers forages pourraient commencer dans sept \u00e0 huit ans.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">D\u2019un point de vue \u00e9conomique, le potentiel est consid\u00e9rable. Au Mali, par exemple, la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 canadienne Hydroma extrait l\u2019hydrog\u00e8ne \u00e0 environ 0,5 $ par kilogramme, un co\u00fbt qui met fortement en difficult\u00e9 l\u2019hydrog\u00e8ne vert, encore situ\u00e9 entre 4 et 6 $. En Espagne et en Australie, les premi\u00e8res estimations tournent autour de 1 $ par kilogramme, selon la puret\u00e9 du gaz et la profondeur des gisements.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les techniques d\u2019extraction sont similaires \u00e0 celles du gaz naturel, bien que la l\u00e9g\u00e8ret\u00e9 de la mol\u00e9cule d\u2019hydrog\u00e8ne exige des syst\u00e8mes de confinement plus avanc\u00e9s. Certaines \u00e9tudes indiquent qu\u2019une partie du r\u00e9seau de gazoducs italien pourrait \u00eatre adapt\u00e9e sans interventions majeures, m\u00eame si les vannes et points de compression restent des d\u00e9fis techniques. Malgr\u00e9 l\u2019absence d\u2019\u00e9missions directes, l\u2019impact environnemental des forages et la stabilit\u00e9 des gisements demeurent des questions ouvertes importantes.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Si, comme le sugg\u00e8rent les \u00e9tudes r\u00e9centes, les r\u00e9serves s\u2019av\u00e9raient <strong>abondantes et renouvelables<\/strong>, les implications seraient consid\u00e9rables. L\u2019hydrog\u00e8ne blanc pourrait redessiner la carte \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique mondiale, r\u00e9duisant la d\u00e9pendance au p\u00e9trole et au gaz et ouvrant de nouvelles opportunit\u00e9s pour l\u2019Europe.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Une \u00e9nergie qui ne se contente pas d\u2019\u00eatre extraite, mais qui <strong>na\u00eet et rena\u00eet<\/strong> dans les entrailles de la plan\u00e8te.
